Four different stories all connected to each other about mothers and their children. Personally, I loved the story and the book although it was a little confusing since you have to read it in the exact arrangement that it is written. By near-end, you'll be able to connect all the stories to each other. This book teaches us about motherhood and how to appreciate mothers. It teaches a lot of lessons in life and also a little bit of China's knowledge! All in all, a good book to read. I hear there's a movie "Joy Luck Club," perhaps we'll understand the stories more if we watch it, too! :)

I think I read this during 7th or 8th grade grade? I remember reading it in class, and quite enjoy the theme it presented, which is the idea of finding one's self and belonging.

I don't think I prefer this style of writing/organization, but the context and content of it was all there + I can appreciate that

The author started going too much into detail about the setting and honestly it was boring. Sad to not finish this because the intro was so well done. I might come back to this and give it another shot.

This book embellished for me the many lenses through which we see our mothers, and the many roles that they fulfill in the lives of their children. Amy Tan eloquently describes the visages of both mother and daughter; the inner turmoil and joys of both, stemming from different roots. To me, it is a tender reminder to be grateful. It can be easy to forget that a mother had her own sufferings, experiences and lessons before her children occupied her scope, and that dose of perspective inspires a reverence that I have never stopped maintaining for the indomitable strength of my own mother.
