Super engaging stories. Basically a bunch of interconnected short stories of early 20th century in China and late 20th century in the US told through women's lives.

A story that follows the lives of four women in China. They later become friends in San Francisco when they form the Joy Luck Club. Then we follow the lives of their four daughters and their relationship with their mothers. A 3.75 rating.

So I have read and now re-read this novel at the approximate ages of the 8 main characters in these stories - it is a fantastic essayist style of novel and these women portray the lives of Americana of Chinese descent and their mothers who came over as refugees. The Joy Luck Club holds up over time and is still a fantastic novel. I’d recommend reading in each adult decade of your life to grow with these characters.

Lovely story which at times is both gut wrenching and horrid. Truly interesting stories and characters. Tan has done a fabulous job of weaving the old stories into the new and keeps it all humming along so that the reader never has a chance to lose interest. Also made into a good movie. Completely snubbed at Oscar time; undeservedly.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!

When I first picked up this book, I did not think I'd like it what so ever. But when I started reading it, I immediately fell in love with the characters and their stories.

The story is so genuine and heartfelt, it felt realistic. I had to look it up and make sure it was- indeed- a fiction piece.

I don't know any other way to describe it other than a masterpiece. Whether you're 12 or 102, you need to read this book!

5 stars!!
