4.5, I loved it. I disliked, even hated at times, every single character in this book. They were all completely awful. To themselves, to each other… terrible people. (Except Garrett, he wasn’t so bad.) However, that being said… I REALLY enjoyed this book! It was like a train wreck that I could NOT look away from. I just had to see what awful thing would come next. One thing, right after another, constantly bad things happening. And I couldn’t look away. I didn’t read it in one sitting, I have kids… but it took me less than 6 hours I believe.
Wow, wow, wowzers…. Yeah, I will need about 5-7 business days to recover and process what I just read! My jaw was literally on the floor the entire time. This book is an absolute masterclass in tension—I could not stop listening. If you want to dive into this genius literary work by Layne Fargo, YOU MUST LISTEN TO THE AUDIOBOOK! It was like reading a book and listening to a podcast simultaneously. It was extremely immersive.
I cannot even begin to explain how this book made me feel. I went from happy to sad to aghast to angry to kicking my feet and screaming. And all of those emotions were sometimes felt in one singular chapter. Every chapter had me on edge and the twists? Insane. Layne Fargo, you did an unbelievable job with “The Favorites”. I want more books from you. This book quickly made its way into my top five favorites! I want to give this book more than five stars!

The amount of emotional whiplash this book gave me…wow! I don’t remember the last time I felt so MUCH from a book; all of the emotions- good, bad, and ugly- and yet I was still fully in it 👏🏼
