My most life changing book. It gave me permission and validation to be who I am. I know that I am no longer alone in occupying my own space on my own terms.

beautiful prose and poetry. one of the greatest works of theory written in the 20th century and an early work of intersectional feminism

tbh I just can't get into this much poetry

Four stars for the essays, two stars for the poetry. Overall, three stars and a hearty shrug.

I had to read this book for one of my classes, and I have to admit being a Mexican-American made me identify with this book a lot more. This book details what it is like to be a Mexcian-American in a world where the culture that you are living in might not accept the culture that your parents and even grandparents are from. It was heart-touching and an honest book that really allows the reader to learn what it is like to be a Latin American in the United States.

Thought provoking. Visceral, vivid poetry. This is inspiring me to improve my Spanish.
