Remina holds up a mirror to today's society with quite a realistic portrayal of idol worshipping and cancel culture using classic cosmic horror

i love how Junji Ito always incorporates comedy with horror. i thought this was an interesting plot but the FMC was so flat i rushed through it and didn’t feel very connected to her. the ending was satisfying and the supporting characters were interesting. the art was so creepy, per usual for Ito!

Remina you will always be famous

Things I liked:
-The artwork. Damn, Junji Ito is talented. Some of the images in this book spooked me to my core.
-How realistic this story felt. Because unfortunately, you just know that if shit hits the fan, people will turn into fanatic nutjobs who see a witch hunt as the only answer.

Things I didn't like:
-The story was a bit repetitive for my taste. A lot of the book was just people screaming and/or trying to capture Remina.
-Remina was a very stereotypical damsel in distress, which got on my nerves.

3.5

The most horrifying thing in the world is being an attractive girl or young woman.

Well that is at least what I can conclude after reading three of Junji Ito's work. But really, is it wrong ?

The truth is that after reading Tomie, Venus in the blind spot and finally Remina, the most horrifying part to me were being those woman. But am I not already one ?

I wonder do if he is deliberate by repeating this theme or if he is just bad at writing women.

It's pure madness, but somehow it's so hard to stop going through the pages. Might be the escalating chaos or the disturbing visuals. My first Junji Ito succeeds at intriguing me even if I thought a lot of this story was just silly, especially the dialogue and the characters.
