This is incredibly well-crafted and eminently quotable, right down to the last page. Do I entirely agree with all of Andersen's assertions. Naw. But this is such a provocative, quality way to try to make sense of how U.S. history got us where we are today that I don't even care.

The tone of this book is shrill. I'd even say a bit judgmental as far as his criticism of adults who like to do such things as attend Renaissance faires and comic cons. He doesn't seem to understand that nearly all people do these things in full appreciation of the fact that they are fantastical and not real . . . And if some adults choose to juggle at Renaissance faires for a living instead of having a "normal" job, then who is he to judge? In the end, this book is, in addition to the judgmental aspect of it, hyperbolic and openly political. It was an interesting read, but frankly too long and the guy beats his own drum incessantly as far as his political and religious (anti-religion) beliefs. He doesn't understand the concept that his mileage may vary versus the experiences of others with those institutions and other things. This guy would not be any fun at all at a cocktail party. If I knew him, I'm sure I wouldn't invite him.
