This is a book that won't be for everyone but it blew my mind and I couldn't put it down. It explores parenting and how a mothers relationship with her children can be affected by the way they were parented themselves. There are 3 generations that feature in this book but the main focus is on Blythe and her daughter Violet. Blythe believes that Violet has a malicious streak but more than that - she would harm other kids. Her husband and mother in law don't believe her and suggest the difficulties with Violet are due to Blythe's attachments difficulties. What follows is pretty shocking and disturbing but it makes for a real page turner of a book.
This book tackles some huge issues including child death and suicide. It looks at what happens when a mother first feel any attachment to her child. It is about the breakdown of relationships, the pressures of having children, mental health problems and so much more. Its a dark, challenging read but one that is difficult to put down.

This book unsettled a part of my being that reside deep within my core. I would find myself thinking over the deep and real weight this books held. I was so deeply engorged in this book that it felt part of my reality. The writing is stunningly beautiful and this author created network of characters and plot that felt different from anything I’ve ever read. It’s raw and real, and deeply moving.

What. The. Fuck. This book is so twisted and terrifying. I can’t imagine being so scared of a child in real life but this child is … I just don’t have words. I haven’t ever read a book like this. It’s a psychological thriller and is full of the most heinous acts committed by a kid with no remorse. The bigger horror would have to be being the one who brought that child into the world and having no one believe how psychotic your kid is.
