Strange 9/11 subplot that turned out to be so much more central than I thought it would be.

The characters were good and I loved Eve, she was relatable on many levels. The storyline did seem to fall flat at certain points and I wish there was more cohesiveness. But overall, it’s a book I would recommend!

I could not put this book down either! What a lovely summer read. This is a story about Eve (a neurotic 20 something who chooses to get into relationships with complicated men) and Ben, an engineer who is logical, methodical and a shockingly good guy. Their paths cross a lot throughout college and their early 20's until they finally date. You hear the story from both Eve and Ben's side in alternating chapters and their ebbs and flows within their relationship as well.
I loved the themes of family trauma, PTSD, anxiety etc and how it effects us in relationships. I identified with some of it greatly, but obviously I am not exactly like Eve. I feel a lot of people could identify with Eve though. The depths of Eve's neuroses were believable and adorable, albeit cringe-worthy at times. A recommended summer read!

I found this one a bit frustrating, but having flawed characters makes them more human right? Eve is an annoying character to me, but also makes for a predictable ending.
I loved this book but it's definitely not for everyone... is a sentence I write too much.
It takes a little too long to introduce Ben, which is pretty much my only criticism. But otherwise this feels like a great twenty-something romance. Terrible ex-boyfriends included. I adored Ben's character, but I think some people might find him too nerdy (I don't but I am too nerdy). Eve is sometimes a bit too self-sabotaging, but I think the writing does well to establish why that the case and it's not like a romantic comedy like "oh if only they could have done x y z" sort of deal.
Long story short: I would watch this as an indie romance movie. With Zoe Kazan.
Also, had to include my favorite quote from this, of Ben overhearing another character and his internal thoughts:
“No. Because your darkness isn’t like my darkness.” It should be illegal for two English majors to date each other.

I won this book in a Goodreads First Reads contest.
I was unsure of it at first. It seemed rather, chick lit. Then aspects of the story kicked in and I became engaged with the story and what happened to the characters. It became a good read.
