If my mom hadn't been visiting... if I hadn't gotten a cold... if I'd had more energy... then maybe I would have cared about these characters and what happens to them. As it is, DNF at 72%.

This story was really hard to get into and not for me. As we meet the two characters that are in their angst filled 20s, I cannot like either one of them. Halfway through the book there is a little plot twist that proves to be interesting and the relationships start to gather my interest. I did enjoy the last half of the book.

I am so glad this is over. I cannot lie, I skimmed the last 20% (minimum).
Eve is a horrible character to have as one of the main points of view. Half of her POV chapters were her thoughts and let me tell you those were filled with so much self pitying bullshit.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I would not recommend to anyone to waste their money on this.

I thought I would *love* this, but the pacing was off, it felt like the author's self-indulgent memoir (just write a memoir) and so very bland overall.

Eve blabbers on about nothing and sounds like a stereotypical 14 year old for 50% of the book. Then you get into the good stuff and Ben appears and you wonder where this was all along. It was too late though and my attention was lost. If it were not a book club pick, I would have DNF'ED.
Meh. This book just didn't draw me in. Eve’s part of the story takes up far more than Ben’s; the first fifth of the book is almost all about her, including a long and tortured relationship she has with an aspiring musician. Ben’s story and perspective really play second fiddle in the book, which makes it feel off-balance. It’s notable, too, how much the book is just about New York, about everything people who are from there love about it, and while other people from New York will probably really appreciate it, those of us who aren’t (and that’s most of the nation) won’t be as excited about all the NYC details.
