DID NOT FINISH: 5%

DNF at 5% I’m sorry but I just could not do it. The writing is very bad, the main characters have no chemistry, nor do they have any redeeming qualities to the point where I care about them. I knew from the first page I would not like this. Him saying “good job boys” to his abs after they “went viral” was just so cringy I could not do it. I’m sorry again I was just not in the right headspace to deal with this lol.

Just overall super disappointing and unbearably mid. I did not find the characters to be believable or real, nor did I find them to have any sort of chemistry. The book was super choppy (in terms of scene changes and how the characters moved in the book) to the point where it was distracting.

A short list of things I was sick of:
  1. His abs (we get it)
  2. The IPAs the girls drank (lowkey disgusting)
  3. Her feeling insecure (she's literally skinny and pretty idc)
  4. MELVIN ISN'T FUNNY. His stand up was literally TERRIBLE like please for the love of god ask a comedian for help cause it was painful

Something that wasn't the authors fault but I still hated anyways was the narrators. They did not change voices for any of the characters and they read every line the same. Not quite monotone but so boring and no heart behind any of it.

Also their third act breakup was so unbelievably stupid. She was upset he didn't say I love you back (which he doesn't have to do if he doesn't or can't  say it back) and was just in general feeling insecure.  She assumed she was a short fling without asking him about it. And it just in general pissed me off. Like have a grown up conversation about wants and needs.

Also there is a ton of diet talk and some minor body talk that I just in general did not like. I get it he's an actor he has to be on a plan, but don't keep hounding on it.

Meh

This was a very cute meditation on moving forward through grief, but with donuts.

That sounds like a terrible description but it’s a genuinely good book focusing on the budding romance between Ryan, an up and coming actor, and Lindsay, the baker he hires to help him prep for a cooking competition show. Both have lost one of their parents and are struggling to move forward in different, yet complementary, ways.

Watching them heal and fall in love was lovely.
