A short read that also fell a bit short of my expectations, perhaps in the same way that living through current day end times also feels like. Mundane, inept, annoying, indifferent with a constant background of dread. The ending felt too fast, but there were a few moments that really stood out as radiant.
A unique take on YA dystopias. I could easily see this book being used as required reading with all of the Biblical references, allegories, metaphors, and current themes of climate change and our collective responsibility for the world. Recommended for pretty much everyone given its short length.
Very funny. Very beautiful. Very angry. It's an eco-apocalyptic novel written for Right Now told through a child's perspective as he comes to terms with the end of the world. I absolutely loved it.
A Children's Bible by Lydia Millet offers a unique perspective on the end of the world through a group of teenagers. It's intriguing to watch them navigate the crumbling world while also witnessing their parents' isolation and breakdown. While the premise is fun, the writing falls short, making it an alright read for those interested in a different take on the apocalypse.
I don't really know what to say about this except that I read it in about three hours, and it was really f*cking weird. Maybe I'll have some deeper thoughts once it settles in a bit more.
Yllättävänkin ahdistava teos maailmasta, jossa ilmastokriisi on eskaloitunut ja jossa vanhemmat ovat menettäneet otteen lapsistaan. Hulppealla lomamökillä majoittuu joukko lapsia ja aikuisia, toisista erillään, myrskyn edellä. Lopulta ilmastokriisin lisäksi eskaloituvat lasten kokemukset. Niin, että välillä tämä tuntui harmillisen geneeriseltä dystopialta, mutta lopuksi kuitenkin ihan omalta jutultaan. Viittaukset lasten raamattuun toimivat hyvin ja palo kirjan esittämän vision estämiseen on yhä vahvempi.
The book starts with promise but quickly devolves and, I missed the actual event that spirals the world into chaos and lawlessness.
