Not sure what I was expecting, but this still surprised me. Generally just a good, interesting story. Similar largely to Lord of the Flies but with a few unique undercurrents in the mix (religious apocalypse, climate change, etc).

One of the best endings of a book since the Great Gatsby.

This was delightful.

Wow. I couldn’t put this book down nor could I stop thinking about it. A fascinating plot and use of a children’s bible. I highly recommend this read.

This is a strange book in that you never want to call a book about climate apocalypse funny, but this is. Mostly because it's told from the kids' point of view, and their universal acknowledgement that their parents are useless and willfully ignorant, especially about the severity of the climate crisis.
There is one part that resolves far too easily which prevents me from giving this a five star rating. But that doesn't ruin the rest of the book for me, or hopefully for you.

While I have some issues, this was extremely well-written and I enjoyed the journey.

Reading and discussing allegory in school felt like a chore. Reading allegory as an adult, for pleasure, is actually quite fun.

A Children’s Bible is one of the best books I have read this year. So far. The writing is beautiful, the story kept me turning the pages to see what happened next, the connections were fun to make.

The children were rather mature for their age, but that is the only disconnect that I noticed. Everything else was superb. My favorite character was Mattie — but I loved all of the others, too. The narrator was reliable and I enjoyed the book being in her perspective.

It was short: less than 230 pages and written in short, fleeting bursts of story. But it’s length only adds to how great of a story it is.

I’m mindblown, really, with the way that the story progressed and with the connections that I made. I couldn’t suggest A Children’s Bible enough.
