I like Cal and Dani, and they're exploits are hilarious. It's interesting to watch Cal grow. However, I also like Dale. With the results of the last battle, which blew my mind, I am very eager to see what happens next. I also look forward to when Cal meets the individuals in the epilogue.

My ten year old found and read these books and loves them, but I would not have let him read them until he was older if I had read them first. There are some very inappropriate things in these books for an elementary school student to read. I think these are better for at least 8th grade or older because of some of the content.
The book has some interesting things in it like a world where an adventurers' guild is something difficult to get into but gives huge rewards like extended life. Or where a dungeon core is sentient and can analyze things at a molecular level and reproduce them from the ambient magic.
So yeah, cool ideas, but only an alright book. It was worth my time as kind of a background noise that I didn't have to think too much about. Wish fulfillment and escapism I suppose. There are better examples of everything in this book, but if it sounds good to you, I think it is worth picking up. I hope the second book follows the sentient dungeon core Cal more though.

this was a fun book. Tickled the same spots that Overlord and Gate anime did.
I like the originality of having the consciousness of the dungeon being a main character. Seeing things from the dungeon's point of view makes for interesting listening. The magic system is also kind of intriguing to me.
