5/5 stars:

This is everything I could possibly want in a romance, from the writing, to the characters, to the actual romance aspect of it.

This is going to be a book I revisit often, I am sure about it <3

Oy, what a massively marvelous book. Zach and Liam are a pair of beautiful boys to root for, and their friends and families are kind and nuanced. I especially liked Zach’s relationship with Rebecca, and her faith and growth, as well as Eben (Liam’s brother).

There’s cheating and no way a big 10 athlete would get that kind of do-over, and as someone very familiar with Evanston, Northwestern, and Chicago, the novel didn’t have a very strong sense of place. But I loved it and it’s going on my favorites of 2021 list.

If you liked [a:Tal Bauer|14930584|Tal Bauer|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1623030836p2/14930584.jpg]’s [b:The Jock|58295149|The Jock|Tal Bauer|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1623160100l/58295149._SY75_.jpg|90284119], give this a read. Though it’s not #ownvoices, it is, IMO, a vastly richer and sweeter story.

Good story... needs a bit of editing

I really liked this story and on that basis alone it would have been a 4-4.5 star read. However, there were so many typos and so many unnecessary words that it was distracting to the pace of the book. I feel like the author wanted to increase her word count so she just inserted words she found in a thesaurus in every other sentence. The book would have benefited from a stronger edit.
I believe this is the author’s debut novel, so I am chalking up any errors on inexperience and I’m certain that I will enjoy future books from her.

Romance ultimately succeeds or fails on the strength of the couple, and Zach and Liam are marvelous, individually and together. Obviously, they are even better together, because the closeted football player and the openly bi musician end up being so surprisingly right for each other, you can't imagine them with anyone else. And their ups and downs and flaws are written so beautifully, I couldn't help but be sucked into their lives.
