My teens (12 and 14) were annoyed by Celie and disappointed in the castle. The story dragged on. We are hoping the last book will be better.

My rating: 3 out of 5 stars

"Fridays with the Wizards," is a nice continuation of the "Castle Glower," series. Celie and her siblings are starting to get older at this point in the series and as such they are changing and growing. I'm interested to see what else will change in their lives as the series wraps up with "Saturdays at Sea".

This series has been one of my favorites, but this volume fell flat for me. That could be because I expected it to be about something entirely different than from the set up at the beginning than it ended up being about. I thought the last 2/3s of the book would be away from the castle as the family began their journey to Luth's country. But it isn't. Arkwright needs to be captured. Again. The castle may be in trouble. Again. Celie feels like no one listens to or appreciates her. Again. This book rehashed a lot the elements of the first three books while not adding anything to the series. I will still read a fifth book if there is one, but it won't be as much of a priority.

Another fun adventure with the residents of Castle Glower. Not many books have a castle as a character, which is so awesome. Also, Griffins! That right there is a reason to read this series. :) Will be handing this off to my kids ASAP!

I don’t hate Celie but her behavior was kind of unforgivable in this book. I would bet my right foot that the author is a youngest sibling. To be honest all of the books read like a youngest child’s fantasy but this one really takes the cake. The way this book treats Lilah is kind of upsetting. The most egregious instances I can think of are when Celie says “wow you really have a brain under all that hair” and when her mother tells her to stop being “hysterical”. I love this series but I’m just not the fan of how the family dynamics portray the characters.

I liked that the emotions were very real. I completely understood Celie not wanting to leave the Castle. I understood what Rolf was feeling with the griffons. I understood the stress Lilah's under making her more dramatic.

I liked exploring the secret passages, because who doesn't want to do that?

Definitely read it if you’re reading the rest of the series. The pacing slows a bit, but it was still a good book.

Recommended for fans of "Dealing with Dragons," by Patricia C. Wrede, "Princess Academy," by Shannon Hale, and "The Land of Stories," by Chris Colfer.
