I thoroughly enjoyed getting an inside look on Lily Collins and what has brought her to where she is today.
Fav quote from the book
‘Let’s proudly share our quirks. Be you and embrace your differences as things that make you unique and special. “Different” shouldn’t be considered confusing, negative, or something that divides us. It should be a quality we applaud and admire within ourselves and others.’

When I saw that Lily Collins was publishing a book about her life, I was incredibly excited about it. Well, to be honest, I was excited because I thought we’d finally know why Jamie and Lily broke up. I know it’s her decision to share that part of her life or not, but honestly I admired them so much as a couple. All their amazing photos together and stuff… Then it suddenly stopped and we never knew why. Which was incredibly confusing. That’s why I hoped she’d write about that in her book.
Well, she didn’t. That’s totally fine though. Instead, I have learned more about this powerful woman. I never knew much about her aside from the fact that she enjoys art a lot. (Her Instagram is very interesting!) I never knew how driven she was/is about chasing her dreams. She showed me once more that people aren’t just born with perfect lives. They work for it, even people in the acting business.
If there’s one thing I can take from reading this book is that no matter what, you should love yourself. Never give up on yourself. That’s exactly what Lily is doing and I love her for it.
I’d recommend this book to anyone. It’s also a very quick read as well!

When I first heard about Unfiltered, I was quite excited, because Lily Collins has been one of my inspirations for years – once upon a time, I even had a blog source about her – and when I heard she would be narrating the audiobook herself? I was there for it, because I've been wanting to listen to audiobooks in English for awhile now.
I have to say that this book is aimed towards a younger audience and fans of Lily Collins. You might still enjoy it if it's not your case, because a lot of things she wrote were relatable, but as it's about her own experience, it's centered around her, obviously. Nevertheless, I quite enjoyed this audiobook experience, because from the way it was written, it is very engaging and listening to it was like having a friend talking to you. I think I would recommend the audiobook rather than the book, even though you have the pictures when you read the book.
While I was going through this book, I couldn't help but feel that Lily Collins was writing the book she would have liked to have in her hands when she was a teenager. She talked about important topics, such as relations with your parents, emotional abuse, eating disorders, finding your voice and for me, she hit close to home a few times. I liked the quotes she used at the beginning of each chapter, because they were inspiring and will make you want to get things done. It's definitely the type of book you want to put into the hands of teenagers to tell them: you've got this!
Moreover, like the title of the book is suggesting, Lily Collins isn't holding back, in this collection of essays. She talks to her reader about her experience and how hard life can hit you. One of my favourite essays was definitely “We accept the love we think we deserve”, because I love this quote so much and it rang true to my hears. Nevertheless, as this book was made of a collection of essays, I wasn't always interested by the subject at hand and sometimes, it felt a little repetitive, because she had covered part of the subject in previous essays. For some subjects, I'd have like for the author to go deeper, but I can understand how hard it must be. It's just that some subjects were more important to me than others, which means I'd have liked some essays to be lengthier.
Overall, I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook and I'm looking forward to listen to English audiobooks more often. Unfiltered was a short and easy read with essays that will stick with me more than others, and I loved learning more about Lily's personality. It was empowering and inspiring at times and I'd definitely recommend it to everyone who is trying to figure oneself out!
I thought this book was okay. I feel like she's reaaaaally young to write a memoir. I found the material discussed was very dense. I wish she would have gone into more detail in regards to her battle with anorexia and the healing process.
I didn't hate the book but I didn't exactly love it either. I hope to see more writing from her in the future because I feel like she has tons of room to improve and I would be super excited to see that.

I don't even know why I started this in the first place (I didn't really know anything about Lily Collins except this City of Bones movie which I didn't really like) but I'm glad I did! Lily is a really cool person and actually has a lot to say and is really brave for admitting all these things
Having finally reached the end of this book, I found that I started it AGES ago. I just saw that my start date was back in August, and that makes me so sad! I really did thoroughly enjoy this read, while it wasn’t a compelling one, it was one that I could sit down and read tid-bits of and love it. I’ve always been a fan of Lily Collins, even before I found out Phil Collins (who is my musical love) was her dad. She seems very genuine and down to earth, not to mention how much I adored her in Mortal Instruments and even Blind Side (among other films).
I loved reading about her struggles with anorexia and bulimia, her battle with self-confidence, and her relationships of all sorts. We all need to find that place where we love who we are, no matter what others say or think. Live your life and be confident. 😘
Also, Girl can write an acknowledgement section. 17 pages to be exact. Even I couldn’t make it through all of it, and you all know how much I love a good acknowledgments. I read her first paragraph and the section to her parents and called it good!

I decided to try something different from what I usually read and this particular memoir has always captured my attention. Though I wouldn’t say that I’m a diehard Lily Collins fan, I am familiar with her work and movies. And I chose to read Unfiltered because I felt as though it would be the easiest to relate to because Lily is not much older than I am.
After reading this book, I can definitely say that Lily is every bit as classy, kind, and well-rounded as I thought she would be. She is a great role model and many young girls can learn a lot from what she has to say in terms of love, body image, family, and more.
The only negative thing I can say is that it wasn’t exactly anything out of the ordinary for me and because of that, nothing really stuck out to me personally. Since I am 23 years old, I had my fair share of experiences in my life when it came to some of these things, and reading Unfiltered was like reading stuff I already knew and lived by so it felt very... repetitive in a way? I didn’t take away anything new from it and a lot of times I found myself drifting off because I didn’t really... “care” for what she had to say at times since it came off as just common sense to me.
But that personally applies to just me and what I got from this book. It doesn’t make what Lily has to say any less true or relatable. Younger audiences will definitely have more to take away from this book than I did. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and learning more about Lily and her struggles growing up. Her journey and transformation was very inspirational and I can clearly see why she’s the beautiful young lady she is now that just radiates elegance and confidence.

I think it's incredibly brave to reveal as many personal demons as she did. That said, for me, this book just wasn't compelling... I didn't think it was very well written, and the chapters all felt... meh. I really like Lily Collins as an actress, but I don't think I'll be reading any other books of hers.
