This was so good! I love Lily Collins and all the work she has done so I was excited to see this recommendation!!

It was a quick read but all her essays were so interesting and so many things I would have never suspected happened in her lifetime.

When she was discussing her eating disorder, I was in awe because I remember her playing in the movie "To The Bone" where it deals with EDs. I am so glad she was able to overcome and prosper through the film while she's in recovery. So brave of her.

Also I am amazed at how strong she is after those awful relationships she had been for years. I am glad she came out of those and knew her worth!!

Overall, I'd recommend this book to a preteen or teenage girl. It has some important lessons that I think would have helped me feel less alone at that age.

That said, it was a quick and very simple book as an adult reader (and I'm not even 25 yet). Her writing style is nothing special and many of the lessons felt generic to me. However, I do admire her candor and bravery to share such a personal journey. The final chapters were most enjoyable to me.

I would give it 4 stars but my biggest gripe with this book is that the author didn't acknowledge the role that privilege played in her success. She lists trying hard, speaking out, and other important qualities - but it's hard to believe that she became a teenage columnist for Elle Girl UK just based on a cold call to an editor, unrelated to her famous parents. This is just one example of the ways in which she got her foot in the door through these connections but fails to mention that, leaving impressionable readers to believe getting a job in journalism or acting is as easy as believing in yourself. For a book that is clearly preaching to a younger audience, I don't find that to be a responsible stance.

Lily was so open in this book and it was really refreshing. Usually people on her level, by level I mean famous, don't like to open up so in depth. Lily was completely on the opposite side of the spectrum. It was great to get to know her a bit more as a person and not just the actress we watch in movies. Lily stands true to the book title, she was completely unfiltered. She opened up about taboo topics and life experiences. Although she discusses some really dark times in her life, she explains how these experiences have helped her grow as a person and life lessons she learned. Even if you personally did not go through the same situations, you still can take from it inspiration and good advice for your own life. The book was really inspiring and has some great quotes in there to think of about your own life. I've gained an even bigger appreciation for Lily not just as an actress, but more as a person. Definitely recommended read.

I learned a lot from this.

Holy shit! This book made me accept truths about myself that I really wasn’t expecting to face. Lily has been through so much in her life and though she has been my favourite actress for many years, I never even knew about anything! That just goes to show how you can’t base everything on what you see on social media🙈
She is honestly so inspiring and the advice she gave throughout this book was so meaningful and genuine, she’s the kindest soul who wants to truly help as many people as she can!! I admire her even more for putting all of these personal experiences into a book for the whole world to see like only some people have the strength for that.
This has definitely become a go to book when I’m feeling low and just need to advice! Didn’t think it was possible but Lily just got so much more amazing to me💙

Just finished my first book of 2021! It was a great memoir. I learned a lot I didn’t know about her life and while I was listening it felt like hearing advice from an older sister.

Lily goes really in depth and talks about a lot of important topics, such as her eating disorders, her relationships with food, family, friends, dating, and herself, and she talks a lot about self love and being true to yourself. And the importance of sharing ones struggles and happy moments.

“By sharing, we learn that we’re not alone, that we’re not so different after all. We’re all human. We all want to feel part of something greater.”

Love, Always and Forever!

Oh my god how much I love this book!! It pulled all my heartstrings and it was so incredibly relatable!

Definitely recommend this book!

But there are a few warning regarding certain forms of addiction, so please be aware when you get into this book!

Three stars because I like Lily Collins, but Lily Collins is Emily in Paris and Emily in Paris is Lily Collins. That’s what you’re getting at this book. A lot of unacknowledged privilege, but reads like a magazine.

Wow that was so beautifully written. I actually related so much to her, not for the things that she’s been through but her way of looking at life. The optimism of figuring it out along the way. Her thought process was just....amazing to follow. READ THIS!!! If you haven’t already’ because odds are that you’re going to find something in this book that means a lot to you. I know I have :)
