I know and appreciate that Le Carre's works are all slow burns, but I hate Charlie so much that I cannot stand to be in her head any longer. Nearly half way through, she's still learning her legend, and I can't even imagine how awful she'll be once she finally, officially, gets into the field.

(4.5) John Le Carré is the nonpareil of the literary spy novel. In bringing his knowledge and experience from his time at MI-6, the reader can expect a certain level of authenticity. However, despite holding him in high regard, this is only the second novel of his I've read. I've liked and enjoyed them both. But they are laborious reads that require patience in dealing with a firehose stream of detail. Nevertheless, the payoff is worth it, especially with this one, which has a compelling lead character and a nuanced view of the Israel-Palestine conflict. It cannot be classified as an out-and-out thriller but the parts that do thrill are like nothing you'll get from the bestseller shelf because of how they're set up.

Wow.
It's quite a book to read, especially as an Israeli.
It's written wonderfully and accurately, and the characters and espionage and history are all perfect. The mental and physical atmospheres are built so well that I swallowed this book as quickly as I could because it was such a page-turner.
Good book!
