Ok so I read this many months ago and as I was cleaning out my library, I realized I literally had no recollection of what went on in this book. So because of that I must not have liked it that much but I'm also not going to give it a rating lol

This is one of the best books ive read this year. It was heartbreaking, sometimes funny and it pulled me right in. The main character Brooklyn had such great strength despite all that she had faced. She was a really strong lead character and you couldn't help but root for her. I can't believe this is the authors first book! It was extremely well written and I can't wait too see what she writes next.

Ohh..!! I love bitchy , moody , cold-hearted , guarded heroine in a romance novel...sometimes i wish that every heroine stops being a damstel in distress or a broken in need of a man or a can't handle a one-night-stand , looking for love , trying to be the one changing the hero's perspective and grow feelings along the 'only sex' relationship...
And that's exactly what i get from this book..and from Brooklyn 'bee' Turner...
And as i was predicting that if the h is of this personality then the hero will be a typical persuasive, not going to give up type of guy...but it shocked me here too...
Although the H Finn WAS persistent and not going to give up type of guy..i love that he has a backbone of his own..and not taking shit from the h herself..
I sometimes hate when one of the mc is keeping secret and purposefully not telling the other one..in hopes of i-don't-give-a-shit reason..
And that is exactly the reason why..that here i love how easily and quickly the untold things are being shared between these two..and even if the fight is reasonable...the things that happened after the fights ..it just makes me even forget what was the fight..!!

Darum geht´s:
Dieses Buch von Julie Johnson aus dem LYX Verlag handelt von einer Protagonistin, die als Kind eine Situation miterleben musste, die sie seitdem für ihr ganzes Leben geprägt hat. Am College begegnet sie dann einem Mann, der ihre Welt auf den Kopf stellt und sie langsam aus ihrem Schneckenhaus herauslockt. Ihr Leben wandelt sich langsam, doch sie fühlt sich zunehmend beobachtet…
Lesefazit:
Man merkt, dass das Buch 2013 erschienen ist, allein daran, dass es das klassische Schema erfüllt. Sie ist tollpatschig, klein, schwach und naiv, er ist der „overprotective“ Badboy, der auf einmal bekehrt wird.
Der Schreibstil ließ sich gut lesen und ich mochte es, dass etwas Spannung vorkam. Dabei war vor allem das Ende wirklich spannend. Die Handlungen bestanden hauptsächlich aus Party, College und der Vergangenheit, sodass darüber hinaus nicht viel rüberkam. Dadurch hat auch etwas die Charaktertiefe gelitten, aber es wäre sonst vielleicht auch zu viel gewesen.
Außerdem war es an manchen Stellen etwas zu langgezogen für meinen Geschmack. Die angedeuteten Aspekte waren recht offensichtlich, aber das hat mich nicht gestört, weil die meisten NA Bücher so sind. Eigentlich weiß man doch nahezu immer, worauf der Autor hinaus möchte.
Die Anziehung der Protagonisten war für mich nicht ganz nachvollziehbar am Anfang, gegen Ende hat es jedoch etwas mehr Sinn ergeben. Er hatte für sie viele Kosenamen, was mich etwas gestört hat, aber je nach subjektiver Wahrnehmung jedem anders ergehen kann – ich bin einfach kein Fan davon.
Des Weiteren war sie mir etwas zu zickig und kratzbürstig und an den falschen Stellen misstrauisch – so hat sie dem Protagonisten ein großes Misstrauen entgegengebracht, ohne dass er ihr einen Anlass dazu gegeben hat. Im Gegensatz dazu hat sie in offensichtlichen Situationen kein Misstrauen zum Ausdruck gebracht, sondern eher eine nicht nachvollziehbare Naivität.
Insgesamt gab es recht viele Szenen, in denen sich die Protagonistin für meinen Geschmack etwas zu naiv verhalten hat, wenn man ihre Vergangenheit bedenkt. Auch ihre Tollpatschigkeit war etwas übertrieben – sie ist zweimal im Buch hingefallen und beide Male aufs Gesicht. Nimmt man nicht seine Hände zum Schutz?
Der männliche Protagonist hatte schnell eine Charakterwandlung, was jedoch später erläutert wurde. Er war allerdings nicht ganz so present und hatte eher eine untergeordnete Rolle, in der er von Zeit zu Zeit als Retter in der Not in Erscheinung treten musste.
Innerhalb des Buchs gab es für mich einige Unklarheiten, was die zeitliche Abfolge anbelangt hat – irgendwie kam es manchmal nicht so ganz hin. Davon mal abgesehen ist die Hauptfrage in Bezug darauf folgende: Wie viel Altersabstand lag zwischen den Protagonisten? An einer Stelle wird dahingehend etwas gesagt, aber wenn das stimmt, wäre es zum einen sehr merkwürdig und irgendwie auch bedenklich und zum anderen würde ein Detail nicht ganz hinkommen, was gegen Ende des Buchs noch herauskommt.
Zusammenfassend war es ein gutes Buch für diejenigen, die das klassische NA Schema mögen. Allerdings war mir die Protagonistin zu naiv und tollpatschig. Zudem wurden einige Aspekte für meinen Geschmack nicht ausreichend behandelt, sodass Fragen bei mir offen geblieben sind. Dennoch muss ich dem Buch zugutehalten, dass es durch den Spannungsaspekt mal etwas Neues hereingebracht hat.
