This was really good. I read it a while ago and I read it again (mainly because I forgot that I read it already). :)

While at school looking at the global read aloud website, I saw one of the book choices this year was One for the Murphys. I hadn't even heard of this book. A couple of teacher colleagues talked about the book and how they were unable to put the book down and was intrigued. They weren't kidding! I read the book in one sitting!

One for the Murphys tells the story of 12 year old Carley Conners. She has grown up in Vegas. She finds herself in foster care after her mother chooses her new husband over her daughter. They both end up physically abused, her mother to the point of having to be hospitalized. Carley finds herself in unchartered territory with the Murphys. She is very untrusting at first and doesn't know what to make of this family who shares unconditional love. She doesn't understand what unconditional love is. Author Lynda Mullaly Hunt does a great job of sharing Carley's internal struggle with her emotions. As much as she has built a wall around herself, she is finding out how much she loves this family. The reader experiences the emotional dilemma with Carley as she learns her mother is better and ready to take her home.

I laughed and cried with this book. Carley is a character that will stick with me. The book is written in a way that young adult readers will be able to identify and relate to her. I highly recommend this book to readers...young adults and adults alike.

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. This work is truly a heart-warming, heart-breaking story. Every word is believable. I recommend this book to both girls and boys. It combines child neglect, foster care, blended families, false impressions and so much love in an amazingly easy to read story. Grab the tissues.

If you haven't read this book or have it lost in your to read shelf, dig it out and read it. Do yourself a favor first though and be sure to buy a box of tissues. I haven't laughed or cried so hard from a book in awhile. Such an amazing author! So glad I ordered this book from my daughter's book fair!

A lovely story even if it was a bit "after-school special-y"

something i know about this book, deeply and truly, is that it wasn’t very good.

This is one of those books that just makes you want to be a better person. Like Mrs. Murphy...Like the tree in [b:The Giving Tree|370493|The Giving Tree|Shel Silverstein|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1174210942s/370493.jpg|30530]. I'm really rooting for Conners and although there will probably never be a sequel, in my mind she has made it!

I enjoyed this book way more than I originally anticipated. I loved the plot, and the bittersweet ending was perfect. I was so happy when it was finished not because it was bad, but because it was that good. The only complaint I have is that Carley started out a little annoying. I can't exactly blame her after what she's been through, but I'm glad that by the end she got a whole lot better.
