easy to read. enjoyable enough, but nothing compelling.

One for the Murphys is about a 12 year old, Carley, and her experiences as she's placed with a foster family. As someone who is interested about fostering in the future, I knew I would like it, but I didn't know how much I would. I sat down to read a few chapters and ended up reading the entire book.

This book has so much heart. The 1st person narrative was perfect for this story, and Carley's voice spoke straight to my soul. Her conflicting emotions and struggles were so real that you almost felt them with her. I loved the family, I loved the mom, and I wished that kids in the real world always had as great experiences with foster families.

Almost every character seemed very three-dimensional and thought out... but for some reason I didn't fully get the dad's character. Maybe that's just because Carley didn't have many scenes with him? It didn't hinder my enjoyment of the book at all... but curious to see if anyone else felt the same way.

I can't speak to how accurate the foster system details are... but story-wise this was a wonderful, bittersweet read that makes you want to be a real-life Mrs. Murphy.

I randomly picked this book up and I'm glad I did. I cried at the ending. Legit tears.

This was one I had high hopes for and so I was a little disappointed.

The ending is kind of like, "MS. HUNT, WHY THE HECK DID YOU DO THAT!?" But I love the book.

I read this book in one sitting. My realistic fiction fans are going to love this book, although it is quite a bit darker than some that they are reading. For that reason, I will be very careful about who I sell this book to. I'll start with sixth graders and let them build their own buzz.

great book about foster care from the perspective of the child. Foster care can be so worth while to the child. Taking them out of a bad situation. However, it can be so beneficial to the Foster family too. I think this gives a decent perspective, although most foster care situations are more detrimental.
