My heartā¤

Oh, you guys, I love this book. I'm going to try and do it justice, but since I'm pretty sure I'm just going to sound like a crazy person, just go read it.

It reminded me a lot of The Great Gilly Hopkins by Katherine Paterson. Both books deal with girls who want to be with their moms but who are instead put in foster homes. And both are really, really tough girls who don't take shit from anyone.

And both will break your heart.

I'll admit it---I was a mess for the end of this book, especially the last chapter. It's really good but also really hard. So be prepared. But so, so worth it.

Highly recommended.

It's been awhile since I've read this book, and I'm quite new to the reviewing thing, so bear with me here. c:

This book was equal parts emotional, funny, and heartbreaking. If I recall correctly, the main character struggles in her life and has a pretty messed up family. So she moves into a foster family, the Murphys. At first, she hates it there - seriously, who wouldn't? You have an absolutely shitty life and you are forced to move in with strangers. She learns to love them, and bond with the boys of the family, but during the end, she is forced to move back with her (newly changed) mother. She is heartbroken to leave.

I actually cried during this book. I tend to get emotional during emotional books and movie (haha, one of my embarrassing secrets). This book was actually quite a good and easy read; it's simple, and not as complicated as some of the dystopian novels or sci-fi's that I'm reading currently. So, for an easy, good read, I highly recommend this book!

I'm not quite sure yet why I didn't like this book more. I think perhaps it tried to touch on so many things but failed to examine any of them in much detail and in the end felt a bit oversimplified for me. Of course, this is a Middle Grade and I am not the intended audience.
