A fun, clever story that is further enhanced by the accompanying spirited narration and orchestral music on the included CD.

Such a wonderful, witty little story introducing an orchestra to children. I look forward to reading this to my son one day.

An absolutely terrific (almost grand guingol) book. Daniel Handler's love of orchestra shines.

Y'all know I love me some Lemony Snicket! And I love the premise of this book, and I love the illustrations, but I honestly found the musical accompaniment so boring! I say that with the caveat that I do not love the orchestra, and non-lyrical music rarely does it for me. It was well-composed and went well with the story, but it was difficult to read along to because there would be a full minute and a half where I was waiting to turn the page. I also felt that the percussion section really got short shrift with this!

If I had somehow not had the musical accompaniment and narration (which was excellent, by the way) and just been reading the book, this may have been better for me.

FIRST OF ALL. the reed instruments are so suspicious and i think the Inspector should have looked at them more closely. everyone else had an alibi but they are just like "Inspector you are so handsome...i love your jacket...." and he was like "hehe well there is No way you could be the murderer!!!" SECOND OF ALL 2000s carson ellis illustrations my BELOVED i loved the art in this a lot :)

I did look at the book, but the true brilliance is in the audio!

A picture book complete with audio CD of Lemony Snicket narrating while the San Francisco Symphony performs. DELIGHTFUL.
