Read- January 2021
- This was my first read of this year and I kind of wish my first book had been something else. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this book. I just didn't love it.

My 12 yo daughter read this and INSISTED I do the same. She wasn't wrong. This book was fun, funny, and charming. I hope there's a second book on its way!

Exactly the sort of book I loved as a kid - villains with machinations, friendships that get tested, mysterious devices, and foreshadowing for the next installment!!

Thank you to Tandem Collective and Harper Collins Children's Publishers for sending me a copy of this book; all views and opinions discussed here are my own.

This was a really enjoyable story of magic, friendship, and adventure. I love the cover of this book and the bright colours. It was a really fun and light-hearted read (for most of the story i'll say) and I enjoyed watching the characters as they developed and realised what was important. Imogen definitely started off as a difficult character to relate to, as did Miro, but towards the end of the story you could see how clearly both characters had developed and how they had been changed by what they had gone through. I wish we got a little bit more time with each of them after the adventure but I definitely enjoyed what we got from them.

I enjoyed the overall plot of the story; I don't think the King was a bad person I think he made a mistake and it changed him. I don't think he ever realised the consequences of his actions but by the end of the book it was clear that he valued his nephew over his precious belongings.

This was a fun read and one I would recommend; you can see that it's setting it up for another instalment and i'd be intrigued to see where the story goes!
