Feels like BDK is telling the same story over and over. Crazy people making Gotham crazy because they can't get to the Bat. Sad; I'd had higher hopes for the series but 3 volumes in and I'm still not happy. Must be time to try the standard Batman books.

Sadly, I found this far more boring than the previous two. Couldn't even finish it...

And then there was another huge dip in quality as Hurwitz does almost the exact same story as Vol 2, but this time with Mad Hatter. And the art isn’t nearly as good either.

That said, +1 star just for that last issue, which I loved.

I adored this issue, both the origin of the Mad Hatter and the Halloween story with Jarvis, Oswald and Scarcrow, just so funny. I am terribly biassed though because my all time fave story is Alice in Wonderland, like my handbag is an Alice one, so this was totally going to be my jam.

Not being familiar at all with the way the Mad Hatter and other Alice in Wonderland characters are portrayed usually in DC comics, I can't comment on that aspect so much. A couple of the comics had art in the style of A Scanner Darkly and I didn't really like that. The faces and poses look traced, taking away character originality and making me wonder who they traced over, especially when showing Bruce's face. The plot overall made sense, even aligned with the original Wonderland plot somewhat, going by the movie versions at least. A little too cliched and predictable in what could have been really memorable moments, though.

I'm not wild about this take on the Mad Hatter. I also found the violence to be a little over the top.

Another superb book from Hurwitz. Excellent story, grimly realised. Riveting throughout.
