This was definitely better than the first. Loved how much darker this one was!
Kingdom of the Cursed brings Emilia to Hell. She has agreed to marry the Devil in order to find out what happened to her sister and protect her family. But the more Emilia learns about her heritage, the more she doubts the deal she made with Wrath.
This was a slower moving book, but I really enjoyed it. We see Emilia develop more agency for herself. She's beginning to trust her body and disregard the sexist and misogynistic human teachings of the church. I loved seeing Emilia embrace her inner darkness, her sensuality and her power. It was intoxicating to watch. And then there's the whole Wrath vs. Emilia dynamic. Oh god, I loved it so much in this book. I don't know what was different, but I was SO invested.
For a lot of the book, we're left wondering where things are going. And I'm still wondering after I finished. There's a lot of exploration of the witches history and their part in the bargain between the first witch and the Devil. While we do get an idea of what happened, I still want to know more. There were quite a few plot twists, some I did call (and was happy about) and a couple that surprised me.
Bottom line is this sequel surprised me and I'm excited for book 3!

This book is quite the opposite of second book syndrome!!! What a fricken time and a half!!! I cannot wait for the next one & I canโt believe Iโm gonna have to wait for a year at the minimum ๐ฉ. 10/10 acomaf vibes but make it seven deadly sin courts with princes of hell instead of high lords???

Update: Book one's definitely better than this book after a second reading. Lol. I had to downgrade my rating from 3.5 to 2.5 (and this is me being generous already). I'm sorry. ๐ I might read the book 3 though just to see what's gonna happen.

The first few chapters were a bit slow though and I find the training session dragging when Emilia didn't even encountered any of what she was trained for in the party. And the other Princes of Hell were bland as hell. Pride didn't come off as frightening, spooky, and every scary descriptions you could think of like he's supposed to be being the known powerful King of Hell.
And half of the book is either Emilia thirsting for Wrath or just them all over each other and I'm like, I don't know what's happening anymore. Where's the plot? I love spice but I also love good plot!
But I did enjoy some parts. There's just one chapter that I would like to think it didn't happen as I was so uncomfortable reading it (Chapter 17 ๐ฌ). Was it really necessary to add this scene? I don't think so.
