A story that takes place in the span of one day, but left me feeling like I had known these characters their whole lives. Woolf has an incredible way of writing by jumping between consciousness and filling in details to truly embody each character.

It took me a while to get used to the jumps between characters, which was distracting at first, until I could get in the flow of her writing. Once I was in the flow of a character, the writing was true magic!

Taking place over a single day: Clarissa  buys some flowers and thinks a lot; Septimus (yes that is really his name) goes through it; Rezia also goes through it; Peter is a bad boy love interest; and Richard thinks very hard about loving his wife. An interesting novel examining the inherent interconnectedness of living in the same city, and the parallels of your life and that of a complete stranger. My first Woolf and I hope for more!

This has to be what being a mindreader feels like: very interesting but also very unpleasant?

Loved the writing style!! Depressing though :((

Beautifully written, but just not my style, found it really difficult and confusing to read with all the streams of consciousness, the interjections and distractions, and lack of real dialogue cues.
