I love Mary Shelly's original Frankenstein, and Gris Grimly honored her work so well. With much of the original text preserves, Grimly's unique, twisted, Gothic art style elevate the story and characters while breathing new life into the world.

I also really love the various calligraphy styles used for the letters throughout the story. They really add so much subtle characterization to the cast.

I definitely recommend this for someone who maybe can't quite get into Frankenstein or is a fan and is looking for something new.

I've read Frankenstein before, so I knew what was going to happen. But I really loved the art style of the drawings that were mixed in with the story. Brought a fresh of breath air to the story.

DNF at page 37.

I really like the artwork, but this story does not work for me in graphic novel format. The story is so dense and there is so much to read that I'm having a hard time focusing on it when I was hoping for an easy quick read of Frankenstein.

I may try and come back to this in October, as my lack of interest could also be a mood/seasonal thing.

Brilliant illustrations! My only complaint is that the cursive in the letter correspondances was harder to read than plain text. Overall, I greatly enjoyed reading this.

Five stars for Mary Shelley's words. Three stars for the quality of the individual artwork. Two stars for the fact that the artwork never really changes or develops until Chapter 7 of Book 3, the final chapter. Further, I personally didn't like the pairing of the images with the text. They seemed to not fit together. Mary Shelley is a hard read, but she's worth the effort and if this graphic book induces people to turn to the original text, then I must applaud it.

Beautifully illustrated, a must for the middle/high school library. I first read Frankenstein as a Classics Illustrated comic and it left a big impression. This version is even better. The style is firmly steampunk and enhances the story. It makes so much sense to illustrate this.
