The Bachelor as fantasy novel
This book is The Bachelor for a fantasy American crown. And the kiss!! Is a really well-written kiss.
It was also about the peak emotional investment I had in these characters. Didn't grab me with characters, and the worldbuilding is -- light. The concept is fun, but it all feels very surface and the drama feels manufactured.
(And Maxon feels sort of like a lizardperson? At one point America describes him as "He's a prince, but he's so-- normal" which is just-- America, you don't have to lie to yourself! It makes sense that he is a lizardperson! He has apparently never interacted with any peers. It's almost endearing, when it isn't offputting.)
