- quality-wise, 1 star
- BUT I gave it 3 because of my enjoyment factor and the fact that I flew through it (which maybe had more to do with the middle school level writing and less that it was a page turner)
- negatives: pace slow af, aspen is sooooo annoying like no redeeming qualities about him, maxon is awkward and i didn’t like how they just decided to become bffs after 2 min convo (even tho that’s lowkey me coded), also I thought maxon setting up the food center thing was super weird and rapidly commie of him considering he didn’t even KNOW this problem existed the day before. It was giving out of touch and like I’m rich so lemme just throw money at this problem and it’ll go away (wrong), the world building kinda wack…
- positives: I reeeally like Marlee and May, the drama between the girls is fun and entertaining (but maybe this should be half a negative bc there is so much mean girl energy), the singular ounce of mystery surrounding Marlee’s background has me curious, and I like the general setting and concept of the book!!

don’t ask me how this book got this high of a rating from me

reread this bc i wanted to see if this was actually a good book or if i was just twelve when i read this the first time,, the results of my experiment are undetermined

i found it just as enjoyable, is this some great work of fiction, no obviously not but it achieved its purpose of entertaining me as i await for a loan to come in on libby

maxon feels a bit flat compared to my memory of him, but perhaps its bc this is just the first book

and the best part about all this is that even after all these years i am still an aspen hater🫶

Was this an impeccable work of literature? No. Did I absolutely adore it anyway and listen to the audiobook in one day? Yes. Will I be starting the second one immediately? You bet.

The royal bachelor, I love this

I first read this book back when it came out in 2012. I have a vague memory of purchasing it at my school’s Scholastic Book Fair. I also remember absolutely lovinggggg this book, and that stands true to this day. I mean I read it in one sitting.. could not put it down. I love the romance, I love the tension, and I genuinely love the princess / prince plot. I usually tend to stay away from that cheesy stuff, but Prince Maxon has my full heart
