This was a lovely , sweet, slow burn story.
I’d didn’t quite reach the 4 star mark for me simply because I was struggling to get into it fully at times because actually very little happens throughout the book and it’s was easy to take a good guess at how things would play out.

Nonetheless a story that left you feeling content

I was already uneasy with this being a "family member's ex" trope, and add onto the fact that the family member and the ex still live/work together and this book gave me stomach rumblings. Also the fact that there seems to be an idealized version of farming going on.

Like, I can compartmentalize my negative feelings about animal farming in general, but when authors go out of their way to make it seem like farmers are besties with animals like cows (as opposed to labor animals like horses), I just can't. I was not able to suspend disbelief here.

This was such a heartfelt story. These characters and their lives felt so real and true. It was easy to fall in love with Firefly Farm and the people who live and work there. Watching Julian and Kerry slowly fall in love under such particular circumstances was so beautiful.

enjoyed it. my trepidations with veterans aside, i know dealing with PTSD is difficult and its never going to be like “love is the solution to everything” but i love the incorporation of animal therapy to it. animals warm my heart and it made me so happy that julian found semblance of peace this way. not everything has to be one on one therapy and i like discovering ways to cope with difficult mental health conditions. also, i am just so happy for kerry to start fighting for himself and what he deserves. such a sweetheart.

Julian and Kerry both have challenges to overcome if they want to find someone to share their lives with. They are lovely people with real world issues.

Some of the characterization and plot points were a bit tropey (I don't care if it isn't a word yet), but that didn't make the story any less charming. Sometimes a good romance trope is the perfect way to relax after a stressful week. I needed this book after a weekend of managing a new puppy and a sick husband.

A romance set on a Wyoming ranch made me feel a little homesick, but it was a great way to take a break from the chaos of the city. As usual, Nick J. Russo's narration adds some charm and sweetness to the characters.
