Another re-read before the next unread book in the series. It is now May 1917 and there is to be a wedding in Kurland St. Mary - Lucy Harrington's friend Sophia is remarrying. As the wedding takes place an accident happens or so it seems. With plenty of enemies to choose from, the tasks of finding the guilty party may be difficult for Lucy and the Major.
Love the characters in this series and an enjoyable mystery.

The third entry into this series falls much in line with the previous two books. It doesn't offer the most intricately plotted mystery ( I was suspecting the guilty party fairly early on) but Lucy and Major Kurland and their challenging interpersonal shenanigans continue to amuse.

**Per the author's Facebook page a fourth book, tentatively titled Death Comes to the Fair, will be out September 2016.**

Robert and Lucy finally get together! FINALLY. I love these two enough though Robert's kind of domineering... especially those two proposal scenes. LMAO. What the hell Robert?! I'm glad he asked Lucy towards the end of book if she really wanted to marry him. Sigh.

-Plot is more fast paced, just the way I like it in a mystery.

Didn't Like
-Mystery is, of course, predictable, but this is a "cozy" mystery, so I didn't expect much.

I requested that book because I had read the blurb of book #1 at the end of another novel and thought it might be interesting. Even if it's the third book in the series, I had no trouble at all following the story, but I think it best to start the whole story... at the start !
This is a historical novel set in during the English Regency period, but also a whodunit. And a very enjoyable one at that !

The investigations are usually led by two people, Major Kurland (a war cripple) and Lucy (the daughter of the rector) but at the beginning of the novel, Lucy has refused Major Kurland's wedding proposal, so they're at odds. Major Kurland is rather the grumpy, straightforward ex-soldier and his proposal lacked romanticism...

Since they're both invited to a wedding, they manage to stop avoiding each other, but surprise, a very unpleasant female guest is murdered. Believe me, she was the perfect murder victim, attacking everyone under the pretense of honesty - she was bound to die. So the Major and Lucy start investigating, together or apart, because they can't stop arguing, and I hadn't guessed who the murderer was.

All in all, I would say that this story delivered : I was expecting a very pleasant read and I got it : history, murder and romance all wrapped up with a healthy dose of humor. You too will probably love to see Lucy and the Major bickering while trying to solve the murder.
And I will need to fall back on the beginning of the series to see all this all began, can't wait :)

Quote :

"Miss Harrington, I am not going to allow you to question the whole village."
"I don't believe I was asking your permission, sir."
"If you were my wife, I wouldn't even have to ask. I'd assume you would do as you were told."
"Well, thank goodness we aren't married."

I told you !

I'm really liking this series so far and this one doesn't disappoint, although the ending felt a bit convoluted.

Slightly wordier review: http://jenn.booklikes.com/post/1295641/deathcomestokurlandhall

A little bit mechanical at the very end, making the murderer unlikable.

Death Comes to Kurland Hall was my favorite book in the series so far! I enjoyed the deepening of the characters and relationships. I especially enjoyed the continued and changing interactions of Lucy and Penelope.

I suspected the killer early on but then changed my mind so Lloyd did a good job of keeping me guessing. I also suspect we haven't seen the last of the red herring from Death Comes to Kurland Hall - I bet he shows up in more books in the series down the road.
