Powerful story and loved the themes explored like racial and class differences. Wished it delved a bit more into the progression of their relationship. Narration was a bit confusing at times especially the plot of the brother but I think that is the point

Di questo libro, purtroppo, non salvo nulla: le parole dell'autrice non mi hanno trasmesso niente, se non tantissima ansia, tristezza e inquietudine, complice probabilmente la scelta di raccontare gli avvenimenti in ordine sparso e frammentato, senza un vero e proprio filo conduttore. La maggior parte dei passaggi mi sono risultati del tutto incomprensibili: non ho capito cosa volesse comunicare l'autrice, spesso non ho capito nemmeno di chi stesse parlando... Verso la metà mi stavo già annoiando moltissimo e non vedevo l'ora di concludere la lettura, speravo che verso la fine si riprendesse, ma non è stato così.

Dizzying. This reads like wandering through a dream. There are so many thoughts that branch off into their own, poetic pages, and I suspect there are many things in this book that only Duras would ever know the full significance of. This is a narrative that doesn't give you a chronological story, it seamlessly blends different times, places, and just when I feel lost & confused, Duras hits me with some of the most beautiful prose I've ever read and I must read on.
