I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Eric G. Dove. Mr. Dove did a spot-on job reading this story and delivering the lines of each character with a unique personality. It was like sitting at a table-read with a bunch of actors preparing to shoot a campy slasher flick!
Moderate: Murder

Liked the story and the characters, but it was just. Too much at times.
Also,
Interesting to see the bones it shares with MHIACS.

His 2012 meta slasher, The Last Final Girl, is on KU, so I decided to read it. It was so interesting to read a meta slasher by SGJ that preceded My Heart Is A Chainsaw by almost a decade! This one is even heavier on the meta angle and the slasher film references, something I frankly did not think possible. 😅 It’s obvious the author has in-depth knowledge of the genre.

This novel has a unique format. It’s not-quite-a-script in that it uses the first person plural and relies more on descriptions and actions than internal thoughts. It’s akin to someone narrating the experience of watching a movie.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s not as gory as I’ve come to expect from SGJ, but the handful of gore scenes it did have were unique and memorable.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This was just the read I needed to follow up Don’t Fear the Reaper (which, in case you were wondering, I am still not over. At all.)
