I really wanted to like this book but it really disappointed me. I was expecting to feel empowered and educated and it was just a long and rude rant, and the majority of the book had absolutely nothing to do with feminism. I thought the point was to empower women and tell the audience that it’s okay to not be perfect but this book feeds into the negative narratives towards feminism and continues the negative stereotypes. This book was really hard to finish and it wasn’t worth it.

Frig me. How much did I love this book? How much did I need it in my life? How much do I believe EVERYONE needs to read this book?

Answer: A whole fricking lot.

An excellent, thought provoking and well written collection of essays that I will own, treasure and reread for years to come.

Roxane Gay makes a good point about feminist literature/entertainment carrying such a burden, needing to be "everything to everyone." Her book is clearly not that; it is flawed, imperfect, perhaps inconclusive and incomplete, like all of us. I found it entertaining, sometimes a bit off-track, but it read like listening to a close friend talk candidly about her true self, rather than someone trying to be the pillar of feminism. Hence the title. Take it for what it is; one woman's exploration of herself and her place in feminism. I don't agree with everything she says, but why would I?

Informeel geschreven, sterke focus op de Amerikaanse situatie. Een aantal thought-provoking essays, maar niets revolutionairs. Het idee van een Bad Feminist is heel charmant, en noodzakelijk.
