Montgomery's optimism is contagious and this one is always going to be close to my heart. That said I also know that Anne is the sort of character is a double dose of personality. She drives me to roll my eyes at times, but I was very much that person as a kid. (Possibly as an adult, depends on who you ask). Your ability to enjoy this one is inversely related to your ability to recognize yourself in Anna, Marilla and the locals of Avonlea. I knew most of this story when I read it the first time, so my ability to enjoy it was also diluted by that.

I had never read Anne of Green Gables before, and I wanted to because it is a classic. So I when I wanted an easy, lighthearted book before bed, this was the one. I'm very glad I picked it because it is utterly adorable and a great read, not just for children, but also for adults.

My love for Anne only grew with this reread and I can't wait to continue on with the rest of the series. Such a heart-warming story.
