I figured out exactly what was going on by page 130
(apartment sitters paid under the table in cash + sitters selected based on their lack of family + sitters determined to be in good health + supporting character who’s the latest in a dynasty of resident surgeons + servant girl found murdered with several vital organs missing = organ harvesting scheme obviously. Therefore the twist that she’s still in the building wasn’t surprising either)
and it was frustrating that the protagonist figured it out so slowly in comparison but then again I had the benefit of knowing I was reading a thriller novel I guess. Regardless, it was still creepy and suspenseful and kept me turning the pages.

Jules life is falling apart when she sees a posting for an apartment sitter. All you have to do is stay in the apartment for 3 months and you get $2000 cash per week. Easy enough, right? However there are a lot of rules and things are not what they appear to be at the Bartholomew.

When the apartment manager was interviewing Jules and asked about family and emergency contacts that should have been a sign that things were going to end badly for Jules.

Did NOT expect this book to end up where it did! Very suspenseful and thrilling, a good spooky-season read.
I think my only critique is that it took a little longer than anticipated to get into the really thrilling parts of the book. It kinda felt like it was all just unconnected, weird occurrences until about halfway to three quarters of the way through. I think I would have liked things to happen a little quicker, but we got there eventually and boy oh boy…

I did enjoy this book, but it took a little bit to get going, I almost DNFed it. I do like a slow build, but this took forever and why it took me so long to read. It eventually picked up and I was in the grips of the story wondering what's next or what is this secret history of this building? It was an interesting tale once the secret history of the building was revealed, but this book had no real twist ending like the first two published by this author, which is fine, he did something different, he left me with questions instead.
I do love that there's always two perspectives in his books. I did enjoy that this concept could and might possibly be real or based loosely on that old urban legend.

I really enjoyed this book. The twists were very entertaining, and I really liked the premise. My only real complaint is that I didn’t care for any of the characters. I found them frustrating. The plot definitely kept me interested enough to enjoy this book and make it one I would recommend. I’m curious to see if I like other Riley Sager novels, as this was my first one.
