I didn't like that the hero kept bringing up the heroine's looks.

I thought I read this already, but if I did read the previous edition I didn't rate/review it. Oh well. Emily Larkin is my favorite author of those I've discovered this year, so when I got an Amazon gift card for Christmas I had to go through and buy all of her re-releases.

Due to bullying from her maternal aunt Kate is unconvinced she is worthy of James and tries to find him any other wife. With each failed matchmaking attempt he realizes Kate ticks all his boxes so he ticks hers.

Tag Explanations: PTSD - James suffers from PTSD after his experience in the peninsular wars. He has night terrors and suffers flashbacks when he smells a dead animal.

Low 3 stars. I did find this entertaining, but the romance didn't really come together for me. It's easy for me to understand why the heroine had a crush on the hero when she was younger, but tbh I didn't find in his present incarnation all that appealing and I'm not sure why she fell for him. His feelings for her made more sense to me.

The Earl's Dilemma was a very sweet story. James was definitely a jerk in the beginning, and, to be honest, I'm surprised Harry put up with him. However, his falling for Kate was believable. I think my favourite parts were the brief references to the other couples Kate was able to match over the course of the book.

Objectively? It’s 1*. Subjectively? It’s 4*. So I settled for three.
The objective part?
Descriptions such as: “The library was a beautiful room, with tall windows framing views of undulating parkland. Shelves brimmed with books, hundreds of them, thousands...”
Or: “couch that was in Grecian style, upholstered in green-and-gold striped silk with scroll ends.”
And then there’s:”He was so large and strong and warm, so kind, so generous, so .... so James.”
How ‘bout this:
Eyebrow (why, oh why?) - 36 times
Blush (not surprising) - 30 times
Flush (oooh, a synonym!) - 62 times
Throat (oh, yes) - 52 times
Cheek (yes, cheek) - 92 times
Frown (we have a winner!) - 101 times
Subjective part? I have issues.

James Hargrave, Earl of Arden has only a few weeks before his thirtieth birthday and the deadline to be married. Unfortunately while telling his closest friend Viscount Honeycourt the logical reasons he wishes to marry the Viscount's sister Kate, she can hear every word. She makes a pack with the Earl to find him a bride. Unfortunately nothing goes right.
I really liked the story and the characters, and found it an easy and enjoyable read.
