Guh, the punches keep rolling when it comes to angst and trouble for the Sohmas and friends.

As I mentioned in a previous review, Natsuki takes the time to develop all the characters we encounter in the series, including the teacher of Tohru, Yuki, and Kyo. This added story makes the series that much more interesting, but it does break my heart that some of the characters have to go through such hardships before they can be happy.

Akito also makes another appearance in the story, along with Kureno, while the main gang are enjoying their stay at a summer vacation home. This appearance of Akito reminds me how much I hate them and how I wish the younger Sohmas didn't have to deal with this dark cloud, but every happy story must have an antagonist to drive the plot along.

There's also a wonderful ending to this volume that makes my heart soar, even if I know that what happens won't necessarily happen between the two characters involved. Still, it's nice to see some of the Sohmas are able to open up more and that they're not afraid to admit to themselves how they feel and react to the environment around them.

I have read the cute, heartbreaking story of Fruits Basket years ago. And I read it about 3 or 4 times, maybe more. The story is a bit cliche, but the characters are memorable.

A story about closed off loners that broken, depressed and sad individuals hoping for a happiness they could never achieve. Each characters deals with the pain and loneliness differently, learning how to embrace happiness and bloom into individuals they never thought they could be.

Its beautifully written, heartwarming, with relatable emotions anyone can feel. This is one any manga avid reader should go through at least once. A classic that should honestly be recommend by anyone.

Do I recommend it:

I really dislike when translations utilize phrases specific to the American culture when the culture in the story is NOT American. For example, in this volume someone uses the phrase, "I plead the fifth". As that is referencing the U.S. Constitution, a Japanese person would never use that phrase. I would much rather the true culture is highlighted and the translator attempt to find a more fitting phrase.
SpoilerRomance for Hatori with Mayu? I hope so! He deserves to find happiness. And talk about ending on a total cliffhanger with Yuki declaring his love for Tohru!

- It is easier to tell who is a girl and who is a guy when they are in their swim suits.

- Tohru is a bit of a spaz.

- The whole part about Mayu was a weird tangent.

- I'm still not sure what the story is exactly.

- What is with Akito? I'm dying to know which zodiac he is!

Five stars because I've been eagerly anticipating getting to the beach house part of the story because I knew it delivered a big emotional punch (and there is still at least a volume more of beach house content). I was not disappointed. Vol 10 and 11 are one of the big turning points of the manga.
