I’ve seen so many mixed reviews on this. And while I agree that I’m over the unreliable female narrator, I enjoyed reading this. It was a quick, gripping read. Predictable and unrealistic (like they’ve all been lying to each other for years, and now are like “eh might as well tell the truth”) with overdone tropes, but I still enjoyed it while I was reading it.

Oh man. Am I really supposed to have an opinion on this book? Because I am conflicted! ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣We have an older surgeon marrying his new, much younger girlfriend. Only problem? He must first divorce his current wife- who can no longer speak for herself. Gasp. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣My points: ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣The Younger Wife grabbed my attention from the very first page. I needed to know what happened next. The characters in this book were pretty hard to like. You have this family that looks perfect from the outside but they are actually the biggest hot mess express. I just wanted to force them all into therapy. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Worst of all? The end. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Be sure to check the long list or triggers on this one. It might be hard for a whole bunch of people. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Funny enough, I gave this one four stars right after I finished it. I guess I’m mostly conflicted upon reflection. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣

Oh Sally! You won’t find your 1 star review here!

Multiple POVs, well built characters and a believable story makes The Younger Wife compelling.

With a large difference in age between Stephen and Heather, his new young fiancé, daughters  Rachel and Tully speculate on Heather’s motives in this new relationship. Their mother, Pamela, has advanced dementia and is still married to Stephen when he announces his engagement to Heather. Secrets abound among the family members and slowly each come to light. Secrets can be  dangerous and even life threatening in this case.

As with the other books I have read by Ms. Hepworth, I fell deep into the comfort zone while reading the story. For moments I can convince myself that I am reading a family saga and then I notice a shift in how I feel about a character, doubt sets in, and then I stay up late because I can’t put the book down.

I love the real life inspiration for part of the story and it sounds just like something someone in Sally’s family tree would do after watching her hilarious and heart warming videos.

Thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinions. The Younger Wife publishes April 5, 2022.
