I didn't find Crown of Midnight as compelling a read as Throne of Glass, but it was entertaining enough. I'll keep reading to see how the mysteries unfold.

This was a really solid middle book of a series, it progressed the plot in a way that was important to the series overall and had its own contained plot line as well as some interesting plot twists going along. My one complaint is that the romance plot has been getting a bit repetitive as the series goes on but everything else is great. I love the world and the main character.

Definitely better than the first book. The characters are more likeable but they remain pretty flat. The pace is fairly slow and the plot doesn't really get going until the last third of the book.

The last 100 pages definitely ruled this book, that's for sure.

The whole bit when Nehemia was murdered and then the betrayal from Chaol... I won't like, Celaena annoyed the fuck out of me. Now, word on the street is that AB goes into detail about C's past and gives more understanding to her actions with Chaol, but lord. She wouldn't even give the dude a second to speak. I know things work out between them (mostly) later on, and Celaena is able to get to a better place mentally, but in the moment, I was like, "Girl. Take a breath." And it's funny, because she then starts the "lies by omission" thing with Dorian to "protect him" and while YES, Chaol should have told her....She should also have told  Dorian. These morally grey idiots. But I also acknowledge that C is 18 and has experienced more horrific trauma than most would in several lifetimes, so. She mostly redeemed herself by the end for me.

Needless to say, I'm following the recommendations of many and am reading Assassin's Blade next.

The ending is everything. It had me at the edge of my seat. The whole way through was an adventure. I love the characters. This book made me laugh and cry. It is my favorite book of the year so far.
