The different character POVs drove the story along in an interesting way, adding depth and complexity to the narrative.
I do wish there was more world building, but as the ending suggests, we’ll see more of that in the next book.
I appreciate the mix of platonic and love relationships. It gave the story more life and made the characters more real. It didn’t feel explicitly romance driven.

I loved this book. I don’t quite feel I can award it the full 5 stars but I feel as though we’re right on the precipice of the series becoming so, so epic. I can’t wait to read Heir of Fire to see what happens next in Celaena’s adventure now that she has left Adarlan for Wendlyn and where we may see further use of her Fae powers.
I’m pleased that Celaena is such a strong, badass female. Though this book was pretty bloodthirsty, and at times just given the nature of her being an assassin can make the reader contemplative of how much we feel able to empathise with her character.
The relationships built between characters are complex and well explored, giving them good depth and aided by the author’s use of writing different paragraphs from their different perspectives within the same scene.
The book had a decent plot with mysteries and character development that made me want to keep reading. It gave me heavy Game of Thrones vibes.
I thoroughly loved the ending. I am super excited now that the plot seems to be taking a fresh direction but I’m also looking forward to reading the prequel, The Assassin’s Blade and getting to learn more of her origin story.
Satisfactory ending? Yes.
Jan 2023 re-read - 4.25⭐️
I have actually increased my rating of this book by a quarter of a star after my re-read. Having read the whole series, I actually found that it made this book more exciting for me. There were lots of twists and turns which whilst I remembered vaguely, I didn’t remember them in much detail, so it was exciting to read it again. Still adore the character development in this and the ending was fab of course!

My heart is pounding with the pace of these books! This is not a drill! I repeat! This is not a drill!
I won't lie, I did think perhaps I wouldn't fall for this series because I had an expectation of them. Usually, when something has been hyped up by others, I feel slightly deflated by the book itself but no. This is not the case...
So much to say and so little space!
1. Celaena is a boss bitch! This girl has more about her than most female characters I've read in a while! I mean, let's be clear, I knew she wasn't simply an assassin, but dropping a bomb like that made me sit up sharp and reread the sentence! The best part is...then I got to do it again! A stellar way to close @therealsjmaas Inspired!
2. I need to take a moment to appreciate the men here. I can't decide who I want to take home at the end of the night...The Crown Prince or the Captain of the Guard 😍. They are such dreams in totally opposite ways! Can I take both or is that greedy?
3. Nehemia. Such a smart woman but so much could have been saved if she just spoke without riddles!
I screamed upon reading the final 2 lines of this book. Like, really screamed! The second has now taken its place on the bedside...but only while I type this 😂. I have a week off work so I will definitely be posting about that one in a few days! Now excuse me...I have a new book to start.
