I dnf'd this at 6%. I wasn't able to get book #1 so I started with book #2. I don't know if that's part of the reason I didn't like this book.

The book seemed to start in the middle of something. But that wasn't a big issue. The bigger issue was that the book didn't adequately introduce the characters, which it should do in any book in a series, and the story was mostly advanced through dialog. I severely dislike this type of writing and it didn't hold my interest so I quit reading it. What I mean, is that the characters just talking and talking to each other meaninglessly without the plot really moving forward. Anyway, it's a disappointment because I liked the Harry Clifton series.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #PanMacmillan for giving me an ARC of #HiddeninPlainSight by #JeffreyArcher in exchange with my honest review.

5 Stars -

Book 2 in the William Warwick series continues from book 1, where William is pursuing 2 cases, the fraudster Faulkner and the drug dealer Rashidi. The overall plot is clever and there is lot of action. But, The writing and the witty punchlines which I had always liked in Jeffrey Archer's books, have started becoming tiresome. Every character has a punchline and conversations seem so artificial.
"You are so sharp, you can peel an apple". And such 'witty' comebacks in every alternate sentence made me gag. I couldn't even understand some of the snarky comments without googling.

William's wife Beth is always referred with an adjective, mostly it is pregnant Beth, heavily pregnant Beth, pregnant wife.

I had forgotten most of the plot in the first book and I didn't have the patience to go over that book again. A quick recap would have helped.
I am taking away 1 star for the cliffhanger, as I don't have any intention to read the next book to find out what happened.
Another star subtracted for making me feel stupid and unsophisticated, as I couldn't understand most of the references to art and some high end lifestyle.

alright, but nowhere near his best. The ending was a solid 0/5.

I actually really like these books. Basic, London detective novels that are just fun to read.
