I read _Mindful of Murder_ and really liked it, so I was eager to read Helen Thorpe's second adventure, _A Meditation on Murder_. The characterization is very good, some situations awkward and not quite worthy of disbelief suspension. As a funny novel and description of the attention economy & social media influencer culture this is very good, as a mystery it is not.
This was a great story with an aspect of current concern that I hadn't expected after Susan Juby's great Mindful of Murder. I can see how Susan is most concerned about Influencers and those preying on young, or naive minds. This was so well written into the mystery. Helen, of course was such a stabilizing character, but those curls!! WHAT! NO! I became concerned when Helen let herself be influenced down a questionable path. I can hardly wait to see, what the 3rd in the series will bring.
The original murders receded into the background, and the next murder took awhile to appear, and then was resolved quickly. It’s nice to read a mystery in a setting I recognize, and with a key character that I really like. I did not realize that this was the second in a series, but the references made to the first book make me want to go and read it!
