Okay so this was a rollercoaster of emotions. There are so many things that happened. Some were predictable while others were not. I enjoyed the angst but hate it at the same time. I cannot wait for the final book. I'm scared

The sobbing this book induced in the last 50 pages made it a 5 star read what can I sayyyy 🫢 definitely loved this one much more it’s like a movie playing out in your head and I would literally lay my LIFE on the LINE for any of these characters OMG WOW DOES THIS AUTHOR KNOW HOW TO WRITE CHARACTERIZATION!!! My biggest complaint is that I just think it would be so much better not in the YA category like it just doesn’t make that much sense to me that the characters are like 19?? This would make a great TV show/movie just sayinggg !! Fantasy lovers, lovers of heists and code breaking, lovers of a big kick ass friend group, if you love betrayal and having your heart shattered into a million pieces, stop what you’re doing and start this series !!

That was a wild ride!

I loved the focus on the plot in this book. The driving goal was much clearer, and the development of all the plot pieces was delicious! The ending came together quickly and with a nice little twist that you can guess right beforehand if you're paying enough attention...

I savored the colder, icy setting! The new additions of Ava and Ruslan added some flair and intrigue. Ava gave me the suspicious vibes the whole time, but I couldn't tell why!

I still adore all the characters, though I think Zofia may be inching her way to my top favorite! I felt like we got her perspective a lot in this book, and it really fleshed out my understanding of her.

Severin continues to dance a fine line between good and bad. He is 1000% the "tortured bad boy," though like, kind of actually given his past and trauma. He is such an interesting character, and while I don't agree with everything he did in this book, his actions captivate me.

Also, slow clap for the angst between Laila and Severin. I am a BIG fan, and I want them to be together so if they could just hurry up and admit they're in love, that'd be great...

And as a side note, I appreciated the focus on mourning, especially near the beginning of the book. After how The Gilded Wolves ended, jumping past tons of time, I wanted to slow down and see how each character was dealing with their grief. We got to see that, and it was realistic and raw.

Overall, I am thoroughly enjoying this series and can't wait to jump into the last book soon! Especially after that intense ending. I have so many questions I want answered...

***romance notes: innuendo and light sexual jokes, one fade to black intimate scene, some kisses lightly described, and thinking about sexuality. All to YA standards. Much the same as the first book!

Not exactly where I expected the story to head to, sometimes it felt too fast paced, but I understand this is just the bridge to get to the finale.

The storyline on this one was a little thin. I knew who the “bad guy” would be from the jump. However, I love the found family in this series, and the writing is just absolutely beautiful, as I’ve come to expect from Roshani Chokshi.
