2.7 stars. as much as i enjoyed some moments throughout the book, it got hit hard by middle book syndrome.

i enjoyed seeing my favorite characters again, with my love for laila and zofia fully blossoming from the buds that were lovingly planted in [b:the gilded wolves|39863498|The Gilded Wolves (The Gilded Wolves, #1)|Roshani Chokshi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1525714353l/39863498._SY75_.jpg|53547018]. the writing was wonderfully crafted as always. but the pacing with the plot was excruciating.

this cycle of angst and miscommunication (or no communication at all) between the characters continues throughout the entire book, placing a heavy stone of misery inside their chests that's suffocating. but what really made me dislike this book was the unnecessary, one-sided girl on girl hate. i thought i left this stupid trope behind in 2014, but it rears its ugly head once again, in a story that i expected better from.

as much as i enjoyed reading about laila, zofia, and enrique (the precious ones) again, it's insignificant compared to how i felt about this entire book, which was just a constant storm of exhaustion and impatience. i'll only think of reading the final book if my friends say whether it's good or not. keep in mind that my opinion is unpopular and the last act of this book was glorious (although, it could've been delivered sooner with less pages), but overall, i'm disappointed and breathed a sigh of relief once i finished.

the last 20 pages are a major bruh moment
