I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt, because I liked some of the concepts. I just couldn't. I enjoy unlikable characters, but there has to at least be something amusing about them. Everyone in this one was bland even in the ways they were unlikable.

I'm giving this a solid 3.5 stars. I absolutely love both the male and female main characters as well as the various side characters we meet along the way. The female main characters backstory is very interesting and I love that they explored it a bit but you know that there's so much more to come and that mystery is part of what's keeping us hanging on. Also I love Lazarus that darkness in him but also those bits of vulnerability we see throughout the book especially when he is alone with Quinn. I also really love the fact that they have not hooked up yet as it's only the first book. We really see their chemistry and their relationship developing and how they're both fighting their feelings for different reasons but they're still drawn to each other and I can't wait to explore different aspects of that not just in the second book but throughout the series. I love the world in general and there's great world building and I'm excited to learn more and I will definitely be reading book two.
