An excellent book to read aloud to an 8 year old (Samantha) who's just had her tonsils out; Paddington is a special bear--"that sort of bear"--and things just happen to him. He's a little more wordly than Winnie the Pooh, and he's just a lot of fun.
My kids and I listened to the audio CD version. We loved it! Stephen Fry does an amazing job reading this story...highly recommend.
I don't remember a lot about this story, but I do have good memories associated with it. My mother would read it to me, and I intend to read it to my kids one day.

A very cute story about a curious little bear who makes mischief while searching for adventure. Lower elementary aged kids will definitely enjoy hearing all about Paddington's big and small adventures in London.

I didn't grow up on Paddington myself but remember reading the stories to my younger brother. Now the book is perfect to read to my 4-year-old granddaughter, although some of the Britishisms require explanation/translatioin for a Canadian child--the Underground, a conjuring kit, etc., and she had to try some toast with marmalade (verdict: no thank you). The unfamiliar words made the book more fun. The text has clearly been updated since my little brother's day, at least to the extent of converting the old shillings to new pence; not sure why they did that. It's still a fun and sweet book, and a great read-aloud--in fact, by request we read the whole book in one afternoon and evening.
Adorable fluff. Paddington is timeless in his antics, and it was very cute to read about them. A lovely book that, although is a children's book, is instantly appealing in its voice and stories.
