We never get the chance of connecting with the other characters or having a realistic portrayal of grief because the protagonist is too self aware, most of her interior dialogues are boring exhausting rambles. And maybe it's because I'm not american but the moments that were supposed to be heart warming (holding hands while singing hallelujah?) felt performative and manipulative to me.
