I found that for this novel, the plot was less of my interest as the reason I did buy the book was for dark romance. The smut of the book is 10/10, however the underlying premise of the work does contribute to a mystery. I enjoyed it overall, but found some annoyance in the plot twists midway, and at the end.

I read this book in a 24 hour period (2 sittings).
The author wants you to go in blind but there is some dark stuff in this book so be warned.

The biggest thing I struggled with is how tf are you gonna fall in love with someone who kidnapped you and held you prisoner for days?!?  Stockholm syndrome is joked about in the book but seriously…..

Then the murdering…. Every chapter, another body in explicit detail.

If you don’t like blood, maybe don’t read this.

Also if you don’t like dom/sub dynamics this is absolutely not for you.

I went in blind, was it for me? No.
But it is really well written and I never saw the end coming.
The author definitely had me Hooked.

From reading this, I have found that I DO NOT LIKE mafia romances. Which is essentially what it is - the twist is that it is spicy, and that there is a vague link to Captain Hook and his rapscallioness. It is quite violent, with breath play, and I won't be reading the rest of the set. If it is 'Disney characters but mafia and spice', I'm not interested.

It’s not a retelling, McIntire tells you that from the beginning, but I really do enjoy it. Dark romance, villain gets the girl, that’s my shit. I did think Wendy was won over by James a bit too fast (both times), but I like them both as characters. The plot twist was an easy one to guess, though.

Dark Romance, Insta Love, 3 3/4 🔥

“You are, without a doubt, the only good I’ve ever known.”

This book is not for the People who like a morally grey man who likes an innocent girl. James (hook) is irredeemably a bad person, and if you can accept that, this book will be good. Though, if you expect him to having somehow misunderstood killing and being a mob boss, put the book down, for your own good.

This was not my cup of tea. It was salacious without substance and the shock factor was not done well enough to make me come around to liking any of the characters despite their serious flaws. I also didn’t buy the romance or chemistry between the main characters. And there was so much abuse and fucked up behavior, which I was prepared for going in, but all the complexity was so shallow it didn’t even count for me. Glad other people liked it! Wasn’t high enough caliber writing to get me invested.
